The Écusson — the old centre — is small, flat, and entirely walkable. Almost everything visitors come for, from the Arena to the Maison Carrée to the cathedral, is within a ten-minute walk of any other. Streets are mostly cobbled and partly pedestrianised; comfortable shoes help.
For the Jardins de la Fontaine and Tour Magne, the walk from the Maison Carrée is fifteen minutes uphill. Tango buses cover the wider city if needed, and the centre has a bike-share scheme. Taxis and Uber are available but rarely necessary inside the city. For the Pont du Gard, twenty-five kilometres northeast, you need a car or one of the seasonal tour buses from the centre.
