Musée des Beaux-Arts

A solid provincial fine-arts collection in a 19th-century building

The Musée des Beaux-Arts, in a neoclassical building south of the Arena, holds a representative collection of European painting from the 16th to the 19th century — French, Italian, Flemish — including works by Rubens, Mignard, and Delaroche. The centrepiece is a large Roman mosaic from a domestic floor, embedded in the entrance hall.

After a thorough renovation in 2025, the layout is greatly improved. The collection is not vast but is well-curated. An hour and a half is plenty.
