Tarascon-sur-Ariège lies on the main road and rail line from Toulouse south to Ax-les-Thermes and the Andorran border. Trains from Toulouse Matabiau take around an hour and a half and stop at the small station on the edge of the old town.
By car, the journey from Toulouse takes about 90 minutes on the N20. For the caves a car is genuinely useful — public transport into the side valleys is sparse. The nearest airports are Toulouse-Blagnac and Carcassonne; both have rental desks.
