Musée du Bonbon Haribo

Haribo has its French headquarters in Uzès, which is why the world's only Haribo museum is here rather than in Germany. The museum tells the story of the company — founded in Bonn in 1920, expanding to France in the 1970s — through period advertising, vintage machinery, and a great deal of brightly coloured product. It is unapologetically aimed at children, but adults who grew up with Goldbären or Dragibus will find the nostalgia hit genuine. The shop at the end is exactly what you expect it to be.

What makes it work is that the collection is actually coherent. The advertising archive in particular is interesting — decades of French and European campaigns, all cheerfully sugary in a way that now feels historical. The museum is on the southern edge of town, a short walk from the centre, and takes about an hour at a comfortable pace. Not the reason to come to Uzès, but a very reasonable addition to the day if you have children in tow, or if the cathedral tower has temporarily exhausted your appetite for medieval architecture.
