Fontevraud is essentially a one-site destination, and that site — the Abbaye Royale — fills a day comfortably. The abbey complex is enormous, encompassing the church, four former priories, the Romanesque kitchen, the cloister, and the chapter house. There is also a contemporary art museum inside the former refectory, and the abbey hosts a hotel and a restaurant within the historic walls.
The surrounding village is small and easily walkable. The nearby town of Montsoreau on the Loire-Vienne confluence is worth the short drive for its castle and riverfront.
