Built in 1900 and expanded several times since, the Casino Barrière sits behind the promenade roughly in the centre of town. The white facade with its mansard roofs and pillared porch is the most photographed building in La Baule. Inside, there is a gambling floor, two restaurants, a theatre, and a nightclub.
Even if you do not gamble, the building is worth a look from the outside, particularly at night when it is floodlit. The terrace bar — open in the warmer months — is a perfectly good place to drink a pastis and watch the promenade go by.
