Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nancy

One of the oldest museums in France, the Museum of Fine Arts occupies a grand pavilion at the corner of Place Stanislas. The collection covers European painting from the 14th century onward, with particular strength in Italian Renaissance and Flemish masters, and a dedicated gallery to the industrial designer Jean Prouvé, who was from Nancy.

The Daum glass gallery is reason enough to visit even if painting holds little interest — the glassworks factory has been producing in Nancy since 1878 and the museum displays a century of its finest pieces. The museum is thoughtfully curated, not overwhelming in size, and the view from the upper windows over Place Stanislas is worth the price of admission on its own.
