Nancy Cathedral

Nancy Cathedral (Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Annonciation) is a Baroque church built in the early 18th century, which makes it an outlier in a country where cathedrals are mostly Gothic. The interior is broad and somewhat restrained by French standards, but the treasury, housed in a former sacristy, holds a remarkable collection of reliquaries and liturgical objects, including some pieces from the pre-Revolutionary Duchy.

The cathedral stands a short walk from Place Stanislas, along the rue de la Source. Unlike many French cathedral visits, this one is quick — the building is elegant but not especially large. The most interesting feature is the 1867 iron-framed dome over the crossing, an early example of structural ironwork in a sacred building.
