The banks of the Sarre river offer a genuinely pleasant walk through the town centre and out to the junction with the Blies river. The paths are well-maintained and tree-lined, and on a mild day the waterfront has a calm, provincial beauty that the town centre's traffic cannot quite replicate. From the riverside you can see across into the German suburb of Kleinblittersdorf, where the streets are quieter still.
The confluence of the Sarre and the Blies, a short walk east of the town centre, is the point where the two rivers meet in a natural landscape of willows and reed beds. It is a popular spot for local walkers and cyclists. The paths connect to a longer cycling route along the Sarre valley that extends north toward Saarbrücken.
