Quai de Londres

Riverside promenade lined with restaurants and bars

The Quai de Londres is the long riverside terrace along the right bank of the Meuse below the Porte Chaussée. Renamed for the city's WWI ally, it has been the dining heart of the town since the 1920s — a continuous row of restaurants and brasseries with tables out on the cobbles in summer.

The food is reliable rather than remarkable — Lorraine standards: quiche, andouillette, the local Madeleine de Commercy for dessert. The setting is the draw, with the river and the medieval gate framing each end. Late afternoon and early evening are best.
