Carnac Beach

Carnac-Plage is the seaside resort section of the commune, a few kilometres south of the town centre and the megaliths, with a long sandy beach fronting the Bay of Quiberon. The water here is part of the Atlantic — cooler than the Mediterranean but perfectly swimmable in summer, and the tidal range is dramatic, leaving vast expanses of flat sand at low tide.

The beach is popular with families and less crowded than many comparable resorts on the Brittany coast. There is a pleasant promenade, a handful of seafood restaurants, and the distinct French seaside atmosphere of thalassotherapy centres, sailing schools, and serious ice cream consumption. It makes a good base for combining the megaliths with time by the sea — the two parts of Carnac are best treated as a single two or three-day visit.
