La Trinité-sur-Mer

La Trinité-sur-Mer is a small sailing village six kilometres east of Carnac, famous in France as one of the main bases for offshore yacht racing and the departure point for several transatlantic racing records. The harbour is very much working sailing territory — boats of every size crowd the pontoons in summer, and the quayside restaurants and bars have the lived-in feeling of a place where serious sailors come to prepare and recover.

For non-sailors, La Trinité offers a picturesque harbour to walk around, excellent oysters and moules-frites in the quayside restaurants, and access to the Gulf of Morbihan, whose island-dotted waters can be explored by boat from here. The combination of maritime atmosphere, good seafood, and proximity to the Carnac megaliths makes it worth the short detour.
