Les Automates Avenue

Animated automata museum bringing nineteenth-century mechanical figures back to life

Les Automates Avenue is an unusual museum dedicated to mechanical automata — clockwork figures of the kind that animated Parisian shop windows and fairground stalls in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The collection spans dancing figures, mechanical animals, street scenes, and theatrical dioramas, all restored to working order.

It is not a museum for everyone, but if you are travelling with children or have any interest in mechanical ingenuity, it is one of the most distinctive stops in the area. Falaise is an odd place for such a collection, which is precisely what makes it interesting.
