The Romanesque village church of Giverny, dating from the twelfth century. Monet is buried in the churchyard here, in the family plot beside his second wife Alice and other members of the household. The grave is simple and well-tended, marked by a flat stone, and there is usually a small group of visitors paying their respects.
The church itself is modest and largely unrestored — the kind of Norman village church that still shows its original proportions. More moving, really, than the crowds at the water garden a few minutes away. A quieter ending to a visit to Giverny.
