Haliotika sits right on the port and is far more than a museum with explanatory panels. The centerpiece is a guided tour of the coastal fish auction, the criee, where you watch boxes of langoustines, monkfish, and hake slide along conveyor belts while buyers bid in real time. The guide explains the grading system and shares stories from the fleet. Tours run from around 4pm when the inshore trawlers start returning, and the rooftop terrace gives you a panoramic view of the boats entering the harbour.
The permanent exhibition traces the history of fishing in Pays Bigouden through interactive displays, and there are cooking workshops where you learn to prepare the catch of the day. Children get their own programme, including a treasure hunt called 'Les Filles du Guil' and shipbuilding workshops. The tasting area, L'Hannexe, serves Breton specialities made with whatever came off the boats that morning. Allow at least two hours for the full experience.
