The small village of Le Bono, on the river Auray a few kilometres upstream from the gulf, is the centre of the Morbihan oyster industry. The river runs through extensive beds; a fleet of flat-bottomed work boats — chalands — services the cages from sunrise.
Several roadside huts on the D101 between Le Bono and Plougoumelen sell oysters direct from the producers, much cheaper than in the restaurants. Bring a baguette, a lemon and a knife — you can eat them at the wooden picnic tables they keep out for visitors.
