Vannes is the natural base for most visits to the gulf. Carnac, half an hour to the west, is the obvious second day. Belle-Île, off the Quiberon peninsula, is a long but rewarding day trip — most visitors stay overnight. The medieval village of Rochefort-en-Terre and the inland market town of Pontivy round out a longer stay.
