Saint-Goustan is the medieval port quarter of Auray, sloping down to the river Loch where it widens into the Gulf of Morbihan. The cobbled streets of half-timbered houses, the stone bridge over the river and the row of quayside restaurants make it one of the most picturesque corners of Morbihan.
The view from the upper town is the postcard shot: the bridge in the foreground, the lower town below, the boats on the river. Several galleries occupy old fishermen's houses on the lower quay. Best in spring and autumn; the village is small enough to be uncomfortably crowded in July and August.
