Nantes has an excellent tram network — three lines connect the main areas of the city and run frequently from early morning to midnight. Buses extend coverage to the suburbs. The city is increasingly cycle-friendly, with dedicated lanes on most major streets and a bike-share scheme (Bicloo). The historic centre is compact and very walkable; the Île de Nantes is about 20 minutes' walk from the château or accessible by tram.
