Paris has two main international airports and excellent rail connections to the rest of Europe.
By Air
Charles de Gaulle (CDG), 30km north-east of the city, handles most long-haul and European flights. The RER B train runs from CDG Terminal 2 directly to central Paris (Gare du Nord, Châtelet) in 35 minutes and costs around €11. It runs every 10–15 minutes from early morning until midnight. Taxis to central Paris are fixed-rate: €55 to the Right Bank, €62 to the Left Bank. Roissy Bus connects CDG to Opéra in 60–75 minutes for €16.
Orly (ORY), 14km south, is used mainly by European and domestic flights. The Orlyval driverless shuttle connects to the RER B at Antony station; the full journey to central Paris takes about 35 minutes. The direct bus service Orlybus runs to Denfert-Rochereau Métro station.
By Rail
Eurostar trains from London St Pancras arrive at Gare du Nord in 2h15; the service runs multiple times daily. The Thalys from Amsterdam and Brussels also arrives at Gare du Nord. TGV trains from Lyon, Marseille, and southern France arrive at Gare de Lyon. Trains from Spain and the south-west use Gare Montparnasse. Trains from Germany, Switzerland, and Strasbourg use Gare de l'Est.
All six Paris termini are on the Métro network, making onward travel straightforward.
By Road
The A1 motorway from the north (Calais, London via the Channel Tunnel) enters Paris from the north-east. Driving in Paris itself is best avoided — the périphérique ring road is perpetually congested and parking is expensive and scarce.
