Le Baron Rouge is one of those Paris institutions that defies improvement. A wine bar outside the Marché d'Aligre that serves wine from the barrel, oysters on the pavement on Sundays, and cheese and charcuterie when you want them. The clientele is local, the prices are remarkably low, and the atmosphere is as close to the Paris of thirty years ago as you'll find.
Come on a Sunday morning: the market is in full swing, the oysters arrive fresh, and the terrace fills with a neighbourhood crowd eating and drinking at 11am with no apologies. One of the great Paris pleasures.
