A short cobbled, largely pedestrian market street in the heart of the Gros-Caillou quarter, Rue Cler is the village high street of the wealthy 7th: greengrocers, a fromagerie, a chocolatier, butchers, bakeries, a wine shop, and a string of café terraces, all within a couple of blocks. It is more polished and pricier than the city's grittier market streets, in keeping with the neighbourhood, but the quality is high.
It makes the obvious place to assemble a picnic for the nearby Champ de Mars, or simply to sit out with a coffee and watch a well-heeled corner of Paris do its daily shopping. Mornings, particularly at the weekend, are liveliest; many shops close on Monday.
