When to Go

The ideal months in the Luberon are May, June, September, and October. In May and June the landscape is green, the cherry trees are in blossom, and the lavender is just beginning to flower. September and October bring the grape harvest, golden light, and the truffle season beginning to stir in the oak forests.

July and August are beautiful but extremely busy. The villages along the main tourist circuit — Gordes, Ménerbes, Roussillon, Bonnieux — can feel overwhelmed with visitors, parking is difficult, and accommodation prices are at their peak. If you must visit in summer, aim for early mornings before the tour coaches arrive.

Winter is quiet, cold, and often misty, but the landscape has a stark beauty and many restaurants and pousadas stay open.
