Van Gogh Walking Trail

A signed 1.5 km walking circuit through the fields and lanes south of Saint-Rémy, following the landscapes that Van Gogh painted during his year at Saint-Paul-de-Mausole. Interpretive panels along the route reproduce the relevant paintings alongside photographs of the same view today — olive groves, the Alpilles ridge, fields of wheat and irises, the cypresses that appear again and again in his work from this period.

The trail begins near the Antiques (the Roman monuments just outside town) and loops through the countryside around the asylum. It is an easy, flat walk, taking about an hour at a gentle pace. In spring, when the wildflowers are out, the landscape looks remarkably close to what Van Gogh painted. The trail connects naturally with a visit to Saint-Paul-de-Mausole and the Glanum site, which are both on the same road south of town.
