Wednesday Market

Saint-Rémy's Wednesday morning market takes over the Place de la République and the surrounding streets of the old town from 8am to 1pm, and it is one of the best markets in the Alpilles. The stalls sell fresh vegetables, herbs (dried lavender, herbes de Provence, thyme by the bunch), cheeses, charcuterie, olives, local olive oil, and honey. There are also fabric and clothing stalls, and sellers of Provençal textiles — the bright printed cotton patterns that have become synonymous with the region.

The market is busiest between 9am and 11am. Come early for the best produce and to avoid the summer crowds, which can make the narrow streets quite packed in July and August. A smaller Saturday market also runs in the same location.
