Getting There

Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) is around 150 km north of Tbilisi along the Georgian Military Highway. The drive takes approximately two and a half to three hours depending on traffic and road conditions.

From Tbilisi by marshrutka: Shared minibuses depart daily from Didube bus station in Tbilisi. The fare is around 10 GEL (roughly €3). Departures are most frequent in the morning; the last return from Kazbegi is typically in the early afternoon.

By taxi or shared taxi: Faster and more flexible, particularly useful if you want to stop along the highway. Shared taxis also depart from Didube and cost slightly more than the marshrutka.

By car: The most convenient option for reaching the valleys around Kazbegi. The highway is mostly in good condition, though the section near the Jvari Pass can be closed in winter or during heavy snow.

The Georgian Military Highway passes through spectacular scenery including the Dariali Gorge and the Jvari Pass at 2,379 metres. Allow extra time if you want to stop.
