Kazbegi Museum

The Kazbegi Museum (officially the Stepantsminda Historical Museum) occupies a small building in the centre of the village and covers the history, ethnography, and natural environment of the greater Kazbegi region. The collection includes traditional Caucasian weapons, household objects, textiles, and photographs documenting the area's villages and mountain communities before the Soviet period.

One room is dedicated to Alexander Kazbegi, the 19th-century Georgian writer and nobleman who was born here — and after whom the town was named. His novel The Patricide, set in these mountains, made the Kazbegi landscapes famous in Georgian literature. The museum is modest in scale but worth an hour if you want context for the landscape around you.
