Kvariati has the only working scuba diving operation on the Georgian Black Sea coast. The small dive centre operates during the summer season (roughly June to September), offering introductory dives for beginners and guided dives for certified divers. The underwater visibility here is better than near Batumi, where rivers and heavy beach use cloud the water.
The diving itself is modest by international standards — there are no dramatic drop-offs or coral formations — but the rock formations along the seabed harbour a variety of Black Sea species: sea horses, spider crabs, scorpionfish, and schools of mullet. The real appeal is uniqueness: this is one of the very few places where you can dive anywhere on Georgia's coast. Equipment can be rented on site; advance booking in season is advisable. The centre also offers snorkelling for those who don't want full certification.
