Bebris Tsikhe

A ruined medieval fortress above Mtskheta, good for a short climb and Aragvi valley views.

Bebris Tsikhe is a compact ruin on the northern edge of Mtskheta, overlooking the road and the Aragvi valley. It will not compete with Svetitskhoveli or Jvari for architectural splendour, but its broken walls and hilltop position give it the kind of rough, weathered atmosphere that Georgia does very well.

The climb is short and the reward is mostly the view: Mtskheta below, the river corridor beyond, and the mountains beginning to gather in the distance. It is best treated as an add-on to the town's great churches, especially late in the day when the stone takes on warmer colour.
