Buses from Tbilisi depart frequently and cover the 25 kilometres in about 30 minutes at very low cost. There is also a train connection. A chartered taxi from Tbilisi gives you more flexibility — expect to pay around USD 20 for the day — and makes it easier to combine Mtskheta with the Jvari Monastery, which sits on the opposite side of the river.
