Heiliggeistkirche, the Church of the Holy Spirit, is the great church of Heidelberg's Old Town. Its long history is tied to the Bibliotheca Palatina, once one of the most important libraries in Germany, which was kept here before being taken to Rome during the Thirty Years' War.
The church is easy to visit while walking between the market square, the Old Bridge, and the castle route. Its tower and roofline also help define the classic view of Heidelberg from above the Neckar.
