The Thingstatte is an open-air amphitheatre on the Heiligenberg above Heidelberg, built during the Nazi period for mass gatherings and propaganda theatre. Its forest setting and monumental stone rows make it both impressive and deeply uncomfortable.
Visit it with that history in mind, not as a neutral ruin. It combines well with the Philosophenweg and the older remains on the Heiligenberg, where layers of Heidelberg's past sit unusually close together.
