The Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, founded in 1991, is one of Germany's two leading film schools (the other is the HFF in Munich) and is a surprising presence for a small baroque town. Graduates have won Oscars, Cannes prizes, and pretty much every European film award; the academy's annual student film festival in July is open to the public and is the best way for a visitor to see what is happening here.
For non-festival visitors there are screenings in the school's cinema, occasional exhibitions in the foyer, and a casual cafe used by students. The building itself is a striking 1990s contemporary structure that contrasts deliberately with the baroque town around it. Worth a stop if you are interested in cinema, especially in spring when the graduation films are being shown publicly.
