Mannheim has a livelier after-dark scene than its reputation suggests. The Jungbusch neighbourhood, just north of the old port, has become the centre of the bar and club scene — a mix of old warehouse spaces, small live music venues, and unpretentious bars. The Neckarstadt-West district, slightly further out, is younger and rougher around the edges and has its own cluster of bars.
The city has a strong hip-hop and electronic music history for its size, and several clubs host regular events with touring DJs.
