Schiltach sits on the Schwarzwaldbahn (Black Forest Railway), one of the most scenic train routes in Germany. Direct trains connect it to Offenburg to the north and Constance (Konstanz) to the south; the journey through the tunnels and viaducts of the central Black Forest is worth taking for its own sake.
By road, Schiltach is reached via the B294 from Offenburg or the B462 through the Murg valley. From Freiburg, the most scenic route goes via Triberg. Parking is available at the entrance to town; the historic centre itself is pedestrian-only.
