Schiltach rewards slow exploration. The half-timbered market square is the obvious starting point, but the town has more to offer: a hands-on museum in a working sawmill, a ruined hilltop castle, and hiking trails that reach into the deeper Black Forest within minutes of the centre. The surrounding valley makes for excellent day trips to Alpirsbach, Gutach, and Wolfach.
