Ulm eats well along the Danube embankment and in the Fischerviertel. Swabian cuisine is the local tradition — Maultaschen (pasta pockets), Spätzle, and roast pork — and the better restaurants do it without fuss.
Zur Forelle — Fischergasse 25, in the Fischerviertel. One of the oldest restaurants in Ulm, in a 15th-century building beside the Blau. Traditional Swabian cooking done reliably well; the trout dishes are appropriate given the location.
Barfüsser — Lautenberg 1, by the Danube. A brewery restaurant serving its own unfiltered beer alongside Swabian and Bavarian standards. Good for a substantial lunch.
Cafè Gerber — Weinhofberg. A terrace café near the Schwörhaus with good coffee and a view; decent lunch menu.
