The Galerie Stihl, opened in 2008, sits in a long, low contemporary building on the bank of the Rems, just outside the old town. The gallery is endowed by Stihl, the chainsaw manufacturer headquartered nearby, and specialises in works on paper — drawings, etchings, prints, photographs.
The programme rotates several times a year and pulls in international names; recent exhibitions have included Picasso prints, contemporary Japanese woodblock, and major retrospectives of German artists. The building itself is worth a look, all glass and pale wood, with a cafe terrace overlooking the river. Closed Mondays.
