Wulzburg is a hilltop fortress above Weissenburg in Bayern. It began as an 11th-century Benedictine monastery, then was rebuilt between 1588 and 1605 as one of Germany's best-preserved Renaissance fortresses.
The walls, bastions, and high position make it a strong stop if you are travelling through the Altmuhl Valley area by car or bike. The view back toward Weissenburg is part of the appeal.
