The Woehrsee lies on the quiet side of the castle ridge, a small lake tucked between wooded slopes and the old fortifications. In summer it works as Burghausen's outdoor swimming pool, with lawns, paths and views back to the castle walls above the water.
Even if you are not swimming, the lake is worth the detour for the change of mood. The old town feels compressed and stony; here the town opens into trees, water and families with picnic blankets. Photographers should come in calm weather, when the castle reflects cleanly in the lake.
