Getting Around

The old town of Coburg is small enough to walk entirely — the Marktplatz, the main churches, and Schloss Ehrenburg are all within a few minutes of each other on foot. The Veste Coburg up on the hill is a 20-minute walk from the centre; there is also a tourist bus that runs up in summer if the gradient is not appealing.

Schloss Rosenau, about five kilometres northeast of town, is an easy bicycle ride on mostly flat roads. Bikes can be hired from several shops near the station. Local buses connect the town centre to the surrounding villages and to the rail station, but for most visitors a car is only useful for longer day trips into the Franconian countryside.

Parking is available on the edge of the old town; the centre is partly pedestrianised.
