Kunstsammlungen Coburg

The Kunstsammlungen Coburg — the Coburg Art Collections — are spread across two sites: the main holdings are in the Veste Coburg fortress above the town, with a branch at the Schloss Ehrenburg in the centre. Together they form one of the most significant art museums in northern Bavaria, with a collection that reflects centuries of ducal patronage and acquisition.

The Veste holds the strongest material: an outstanding print room with works by Dürer, Cranach, and Rembrandt, one of the world's largest carriage collections, and a remarkable display of arms and armour. The glass collection — Renaissance Venetian and Bohemian pieces in particular — is exceptional. The Ehrenburg branch concentrates on the palace's state rooms and their historical furnishings. Combined, they represent an unusual depth for a city this size.
