Marktplatz

Freising's Marktplatz is the flat, lively centre of the lower town — a broad pedestrian street rather than a formal square, lined with 17th and 18th-century townhouses, cafes, and independent shops. It lacks the grandeur of Munich's central spaces, but it has the scale and pace of a working Bavarian market town, which is what Freising actually is.

The Rathaus (town hall) anchors the east end of the square, an elegant building with a modest tower. A weekly market operates on Saturdays with local produce, flowers, and Bavarian food stalls. The Marktplatz is the best base for exploring on foot — from here the Domberg rises immediately to the south, and the old lanes toward St George's Church branch off in several directions.
