Hof is one of the better-connected small cities in northern Bavaria. ICE services run direct to Munich (around two and a half hours), Berlin (around three and a half), and Leipzig; regional trains link the city to Bayreuth, Bamberg, Nuremberg, and across the Saxon border to Plauen and Zwickau. The main station, Hof Hauptbahnhof, is about a kilometre south of the old town and a five-minute taxi or fifteen-minute walk.
By road, Hof sits at the junction of the A9 (Munich–Berlin) and the A72 (Hof–Chemnitz–Leipzig). Driving from Munich takes around three hours and from Berlin a little under four. There is a small regional airport at Hof-Plauen (HOQ), but scheduled flights are rare; most visitors fly to Nuremberg or Leipzig and take the train.
