St. Lorenz is the older of Hof's two great churches, mentioned in records as early as 1255. The squat tower and thick western walls suggest its defensive past — the church sat just outside the town walls and was fortified in its own right. Inside, the choir is narrow and dark, with original 14th-century vaulting and a fine sandstone pulpit.
The surrounding cemetery, in use until the 19th century, has been converted into a quiet garden and is a pleasant detour on a walk between the railway station and the old town.
