St. Michaeliskirche

The Gothic main parish church and dominant landmark of Hof

The two slender towers of St. Michael's parish church are visible from most of Hof and have been the architectural signature of the city for six centuries. The current building dates from the 15th century, though there has been a church on the site since the 13th. The interior is unexpectedly bright and high — late-Gothic vaulting over a hall church plan — and the side chapels carry good Baroque altarpieces.

It is the kind of church where you can sit at the back for ten minutes and have the place to yourself. The organ recitals on summer Friday evenings are well worth catching if your visit overlaps.
