Passau is well connected by rail — it sits on the main Munich–Vienna line, with frequent trains from Munich (about 2 hours) and from Vienna (about 3 hours). The train station is a short walk from the old town. There are also direct services from Nuremberg and Regensburg.
By road, Passau is on the A3 autobahn, the major route between Munich and Vienna. The city is about 200 km east of Munich. River cruise ships stop at Passau regularly as part of Danube cruises between Passau and Budapest or the Black Sea; the passenger quay is in the old town directly on the river.
