Weikersheim's market square is the compact, quiet centre of town — a few cafés, half-timbered buildings, and a Gothic church that predates the Renaissance palace by a century. The square looks directly up towards the castle, and the sight lines between the two are the best way to grasp how completely the Hohenlohe princes shaped this small town to reflect their power.
The church contains some medieval furnishings and is open to visitors. The market square itself comes alive on summer mornings when local produce stalls set up — the surrounding Tauber valley is good agricultural country, and the fruit and vegetables are worth stopping for.
