Schweinfurt sits directly on the Main River and the waterfront promenade is one of the most pleasant parts of the town for walking. The river here is wide and slow, bordered by trees on both banks. Boat trips on the Main (roughly €15, seasonal) leave from the town wharf and run downstream through typical Franconian river scenery.
The promenade is particularly good in the early morning and evening when the light is soft on the water. Cyclists use it heavily — Schweinfurt is on the Main Cycle Route (Mainradweg), one of Germany's long-distance cycling paths, and the town makes a practical overnight stop for cyclists doing the full route.
