Berliner Philharmonie

The Berliner Philharmonie is one of Berlin's great modern buildings, a gold-toned concert hall designed by Hans Scharoun and opened in the 1960s. It is home to the Berlin Philharmonic, but the building itself is worth noticing even if you are not going to a performance.

The main hall sits in the Kulturforum and is known for its vineyard-style seating, with the audience wrapped around the orchestra. Tickets can be hard to get for major concerts, but lunch concerts and late performances sometimes make it easier to see the place from the inside.
